Finally finished the nightmare that was Tingle and Barkle from Freshly Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland. If ever there was a kit that was “out to get me”, this was it! And I thought it would be a nice break from my last rough kit.. From putty cracking and just plain not working to paint peeling for no reason to almost breaking my new memory card upon completion, this kit was one piece of bad luck after another.
What drives my painting OCD nuts is that his eyes are sculpted lopsided. It doesn’t show as much in the final product, I hope.
Some may think of him as Zelda’s Jar-Jar, but he’s well liked around here.
I went with a more traditional color scheme from the Zelda games, instead of the more neon DS game from which the kit is sculpted. I wanted to keep the base brightest to bring focus to tingle’s detailed face.
I couldn’t find anything that was in the traditional rupee shape (and I thought it would be so easy!) so I created my own from some iridescent clear beads I dipped in a mixture of clear paint and future.
Somewhere in the midst of all this hardship, I managed to finish him and my husband is pretty happy about it. Now he lives on his shelf, hopefully never to bother me again!
Large surfaces airbrushed, details hand painted. Shading done with pastels.
